STANDING IN THE FIRE

Today there are millions of Christians in the Asian world who are standing in the fire – living their lives – under the threat of harassment and persecution all because of their Christian faith.

According to Fox news… “Thirty years ago, there were approximately 1.4 million Christians in Iraq. The number dwindled to around 1 million after the fall of Saddam Hussein in 2003, and a year ago it was estimated that there were less than 250,000 left. Numbers have continued to decline as families flee, and today even approximate figures are difficult to obtain.”

Not only in Irag but in other Muslim nations Christians often face threats… I think of Noman Munir Masih from Pakistan… It was a typical Monday when he prepared to go to work with his brother-in-law and uncle. After refusing to work on Sunday, as his Muslim employer demanded he do, Noman a 20-year-old Christian sanitation worker was killed in a drive-by shooting by two assailants on motorcycles.

Noman’s family attorney said that the employer had warned the worker that he would face “dire consequences” if he did not comply, and threatened to “cut off his legs and riddle his body with bullets” for defying his order. “Many Muslims find it hard to accept refusal by a ‘lowly’ Christian,” a Christian rights activist said. “This is not the first time a Christian sanitary worker has been killed or subjected to violence for refusing to comply with unjust demands of persons from the Muslim majority.”

Norman was the primary provider for his Christian family after his father died two years ago. Through his work he supported not only his mother, but his three brothers and two sisters.

Yet, in the midst of this frightening time for so many AsiaLink’s ministry continues to see lives transformed and changed. Just several weeks ago we held our Evangelism Conference for Young Adults in central Pakistan. During the conference over 200 young adults were challenged on their need of reaching their communities for Christ. (see photo right)

Bro. Hamid our AsiaLink Director has been arrested 9 times for his faith. Several years ago he narrowly escaped from being killed by 3 assassins hired to kill him. Undeterred by this, he like so many others, continues to inspire today’s younger generation to share the incredible message of Christ with those who do know Him. That’s why your investment in ministry is needed like never before.

YOUR PRAYERS AND GENEROSITY NEEDED

We so appreciate our AsiaLink family of donors who consistently give generously to support AsiaLink on a monthly or special basis. As we near the end of summer, we are asking you to consider a special one-time gift of $200.00 (or $50.00 month from June – Sept) for AsiaLink’s Where Most Needed Fund.

Your gift to “Where Most Needed” enables and equips AsiaLink with the resources to respond to urgent needs! By donating to this fund you strengthen those areas of ministry that are underfunded and in critical need. THANK YOU for empowering AsiaLink to keep in step with what God is doing in Asia!

 THANK YOU

As our way of thanking you, I want to send you the newly released inspiring book Standing In the Fire. You’ll be introduced to heroes of our faith, former Muslims who now love Jesus wholeheartedly.
